For our new May Macrame Challenge, we’re making my latest plant hanger design with a super cute colorful X-Knot. This pattern is perfect for beginners and will show you a fun way of incorporating more colors into your Macrame pieces!
When I first discovered this cute X-knot via Macrame with Aya, I immediately envisioned this fun and colorful plant hanger. I’m so happy I get to share the tutorial with you now so you can learn how to make this easy project too!

Easy X-Knot Macrame Plant Hanger Tutorial
Are you excited to get started with this cute Macrame plant hanger? I can’t wait to see your colorful designs!
In the first part of this video tutorial, I will teach you the easy way of making the X-Knot so you can slowly get the hang of it. In the second part, I’ll show you a way to speed up this knotting pattern, so make sure to watch until the end!
How to slow down a YouTube video
If you want to slow down a YouTube video, you can do so by adjusting the Playback speed in the Settings Menu. Click the three dots (on mobile) or cogwheel (on desktop) and adjust the Playback speed to 0.75x to 0.25x to slow down the video.
To quickly move 10 seconds back or forth in a video, simply double-tap on the left or right of your phone screen.
Supplies needed for this challenge
- 8 x 370 cm / 146 inches Cream 3mm 3-ply cords by Nook Theory
- 2 X 50 cm / 20 inches Cream 3mm 3-ply cords by Nook Theory for making 2 gathering knots
- 4 x 250 cm / 100 inches Lilac 3mm 3-ply cords by Nook Theory
- 1 x small wooden or metal ring
- 1 x small pot (mine is 9cm / 3.5 inches from Ikea)
You are free to slightly alter the pattern, change the size of the project, and can of course use your own favorite Macrame cords and colors.
