Macrame Cactus Tutorial

Hi guys, Chasta from Soulful Notions here 🙂

I’m so happy to share this quick and simple tutorial for a Macrame cactus 🌵 with you!

I really enjoy these small projects when I’m busy but still want to make something beautiful. Are there any maker mommas out there feeling the same way?

I hope you enjoy this tutorial! I love to see what you create so make sure to tag me on Instagram!

DIY Macrame Cactus Video Tutorial

The cactus I made for this tutorial is fair-sized (13.5 inches tall!!) but you can make it any size you want. Simply experiment with different heights before you cut the rope.

Another option besides using yarn, as I did in this video, is trying different types and sizes of macrame cord, string, ribbon, etc for wrapping. You can also make it thicker or thinner by choosing the filler rope accordingly.

I didn’t use wire for this cactus as I don’t find it necessary plus it holds great with glue. If you don’t have a glue gun or strong fabric glue, you can sew the pieces into place as well.

Instructions for Macrame Cactus

Cactus Height: 13.5inches/34cm
Cactus Width: 9inches/23cm
(measured from the top of the hanger to the bottom of the fringe)

For this project, I’ve used 13mm rope, acrylic yarn plus one 2cm wooden bead.

You need

  • Knitting needle
  • Glue gun (or sewing kit)

Cut your rope to the following lengths

Inner part Cactus: 1 rope x 21 inches/53cm
Outer part Cactus: 1 rope x 36 inches/92cm
